PRAY FOR – Germany.
Population 82 million People per sq km 230 Religion Officially 69% Christian (about one third of the country is Catholic), but most don’t actually attend regularly Positives Everyone is aware of the war history of Germany, but – contrary to negative expectations – the Germans don’t even think of denying their dark history. They are generally interested in history, and aim to avoid going down this path ever again. Germany is a nation full of tradition and culture: many buildings in Germany are older than the nation of Australia! They see almost everything that is old as an important part of who they are; therefore they preserve, and respect, everything in their country. The downside of this is not that nothing is sacred, but that everything is sacred to the Germans. They are surprisingly tolerant people, accepting almost anything in their nation that doesn’t contradict their law, or have anything to do with the Nazis (mind you, the Nazi party still exists). This includes a low drinking age, naked images on billboards and a high percentage of smokers. It is a very intellectual country, with the minimum number of years at school being 13. The literacy level of the total population is 99%. Every single student in a German school (thanks to free education) must learn at least two foreign languages – including English in most (if not all) cases. The Germans live relatively healthy lives, both in terms of their bodies and the planet: eating a lot of salads, riding bicycles everywhere (mostly in rural areas though), and making use of solar panels on almost every house.

Prayer needs A realisation that religion is to be taken seriously, not just as another of their multitudes of traditions. A revival in the churches to live in the 21st century, not the19th. That they will learn the difference between being tolerant and being amoral.
