PRAYING for BANGLADESH

19th October 2008

Pray for Bangladesh

Bangladesh has a population of 153 million, that is over 1,000 people per sq km. Australia has 2 people per sq km. 85% Muslim & 12% are Hindu.

One of the world’s poorest nations, suffering from gross over-population and periodic natural disasters such as devastating floods and cyclones with enormous loss of life and property. There seems little hope that the poverty of this land will ever be substantially alleviated. Major sources of foreign exchange are aid, textiles, clothing, jute and funds sent home from Bengalis working abroad. Over 55% live below the poverty line. They have entered the Cricket Test series, first game in 2000, they have played 50 tests and won just 1 game so far against Zimbabwe in 2005.

Praise God for…

1 A continued relative openness to the gospel continues despite, or even because of, the increased Islamist propaganda and violence, disillusionment with politicians and a series of natural mega-disasters. 2 Pray the openness may increase and yield an abundant harvest.

Continued church growth and the emergence of many new, younger church leaders during the 1990s.

3 Indigenous and international groups have made a significant contribution towards reducing poverty through micro loans and self-help schemes for the very poor.

Pray also for Bhutan & Nepal
