Pray for Greece
Population is 10.7 million. Southernmost part of the Balkan Peninsula in SE Europe and 150 inhabited islands in the Ionian, Aegean and Mediterranean Seas. The islands constitute 20% of the land area. Four fifths of Greece consist of mountains or hills, making the country one of the most mountainous in Europe. 95% of the population are Christian with almost all belonging to the Greek Orthodox church.
Greece was the first European country to be evangelized (Acts 16:10), but Christianity is now more cultural than spiritual, with only 2% of the population in church on an average Sunday. Evangelical church members number around 15,000. Pray for a renewal.

Athens today has a population of over 3 million and has been continuously inhabited for at least 4,500 years. Classical Athens became the leading city of ancient Greece in the 5th century BC, with its cultural achievements laying the foundations of Western civilization. Athens was the host city of the first modern-day Olympic Games in 1896, and 108 years later it welcomed home the 2004 Summer Olympics, with great success. | |
