PRAYING for NICARAGUA

18th July 2010

Pray for Nicaragua

Population  6 million  People  48 per sq km

Religion  90% Christian

Positives

Many minerals, fertile soil and low population make the country potentially wealthy but the poorest Central American state because of nearly two centuries of dictatorships, civil wars and natural calamities. These tragedies have shocked many unbelievers into a living faith. Extensive evangelism by mass crusades, ‘Evangelism in Depth’ programmes and local church outreaches have all added to the Kingdom too. Roman Catholic 58.5%, Evangelical 21.6%, Moravian 1.6%, Jehovah's Witness 0.9%, other 1.7%, none 15.7% (2005 census).

Prayer needs

Hurricane Mitch in 1998 traumatized the nation with massive destruction of roads, housing and farmland. Over 19,000 perished and 2 million were made homeless. International aid quickly dried up after the initial effort, and little has been done to alleviate the massive foreign debt. Pray for emotional healing, wise, long-term economic aid and spiritual fruit. Pray the government would gain the authority and respect of all communities to institute the needed structural, sociological and economic changes. Evangelicals are now one-fifth of the population, but do not agree on how to be effective and prophetic inside the present corrupt political system.
