Pray for Taiwan Population: 23.5 Million 654 people per sq km. Religion: 60% Traditional Chinese Religion, 6% Christian Answer to Prayer A mountainous island 160 km east of mainland China, together with the Penghu archipelago and the islands of Matsu and Kinmen close to the mainland. One of the world’s most densely populated countries. A new era of Christian growth is underway after a long stagnation of several decades. Much more than in the past, this growth encompasses mega churches and house churches, charismatic and conservative, and spans ethnic, language and class barriers. In recent years, many churches have had a greater emphasis on prayer, personal evangelism and community outreach.

 Challenge for Prayer Taiwan’s controversial and ambiguous political status generates frequent tension, domestically and internationally. Claiming independence would almost certainly bring a hostile, even military response from China. Pray for wisdom for leaders and that peaceful and mutually beneficial relations might be established for the long term. Recent trade agreements between the two nations offer positive signs. People often comment that Taiwan is open politically but closed spiritually. |
