I am staying at my parents home in Port Lincoln and I was showing a friend through the family home during the week. I explained that even though it is  a very small lounge room they hosted a Bible study in their home for a dozen people every week for about 20 years. My friend simply said, “how faithful.”  This made me reflect on the value of a long term commitment to following Jesus and to being obedient to his call.

Today we gather to remember Muriel Coventry who has given her life to follow Jesus in obedience to the call that she received. She followed him and made him known to those that she met. Muriel’s life has been a powerful witness for Jesus to her family, her friends and her neighbours.

Some verses from John 1.

“John himself was not the light; he was simply a witness to tell about the light. The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.” John 1:8-9 NLT.

We must simply point people to Jesus. Following Him is where they will find true contentment.   We are simply His messengers just like the Apostle John.

To all those who carry out the task set before them by Jesus, you will hear the following words, “Well done good and faithful servant.”
