When we think about what is at the core of our heart we are confronted with some very stark descriptions. We can read a troubling summary of the heart of man from Mark 7, “For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.” Mark 7:21-23, ESV.
So we need to hear that there is hope for us and thankfully we read some very good news in Ephesians,
“For though once your heart was full of darkness, now it is full of light from the Lord, and your behaviour should show it!” Ephesians 5:8. Living Bible.
This light comes not from us deciding to be good people but rather it is by God’s grace as He blesses us with His presence. So Paul’s teaching to a group of immature people in Corinth is vital and very helpful for us today. Shine forth the love of Jesus in all you do!
“Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?” 1 Corinthians 3:16, ESV.
We can have a pure and clean heart by His grace, so ask God today.
