I was waiting for some parts for my bike on Tuesday and so after they had not arrived at 5pm I called the delivery company and the lady assured me they will arrive. But they didn’t! She promised me they would come that day but she was powerless to carry out her promise. Our theme today is that God has the power to do what he has promised! We need not fret or fear. An Old Testament promise was made to Abraham and Sarah by the Lord.
“…He said, “I’ll come back about this time next year, and when I do, Sarah will already have a son.” Sarah was behind Abraham, listening at the entrance to the tent. Abraham and Sarah were very old, and Sarah was well past the age for having children. So she laughed and said to herself, “Now that I am worn out and my husband is old, will I really know such happiness?” The Lord asked Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh? Does she doubt that she can have a child in her old age? I am the Lord! There is nothing too difficult for me. I’ll come back next year at the time I promised, and Sarah will already have a son.” Genesis 18:10-14, CEV.
Note the wonderful verses from Romans 4 that remind us of Abraham’s faith in a powerful God. This can be a reality in our lives too.
“God promised Abraham a lot of descendants. And when it all seemed hopeless, Abraham still had faith in God and became the ancestor of many nations.
Abraham’s faith never became weak, not even when he was nearly a hundred years old. He knew that he was almost dead and that his wife Sarah could not have children. But Abraham never doubted or questioned God’s promise. His faith made him strong, and he gave all the credit to God.” Romans 4:18-20, CEV.
