I had a call from a salesman one day and I didn’t really want to talk about our phone bill or the plan we were on but he seemed a nice chap and he just kept talking. I would have said goodbye if he wanted to finish up but he just went on and on. In the end I agreed to change my plan which did save me some money but it was interesting to think about how persistent he had to be to get me to agree to make the changes to the phone plan.
The salesman’s persistence fluctuated between being annoying and eventually being helpful. It reminds us of the main point of the parable told by Jesus in Luke 18:1-8. Jesus told the disciples “a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart.” Luke 18:1, ESV.
Don’t give up in prayer. Keep praying and believing. God wants us to have persistence in prayer because it keeps our mind thinking of others, keeps us
thinking about spiritual things and helps us to be focused on Jesus.
Paul said the following, “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all
circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians
5:16-18, NIV.
However, if you do get a call over the phone to change your phone plan or
something similar, get them to send the suggested changes to you in the mail and then arrange to meet them in their office if you want to go further. Be careful and ask someone who is independent and wiser.
