Sometimes when we listen to politicians we hear a lot of clever words strung together but we have no idea what they mean. It is refreshing to hear from someone who cares and even more importantly identifies with his or her hearers. Jesus does this. He is the Word. As we read to the opening verses of John, Jesus’ credentials are written out.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:1-5, ESV.
A politician will occasionally visit the people and try to empathise with those in need. They will want to be seen doing this and they will want it to appear like they are bringing relief to all that are listening. Often the greatest “relief” is when they leave! This is not so with Jesus. He came to identify with us and to give us eternal relief. He came to bring us peace in the midst of our struggles.
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14.
Trust in Jesus today. The peace He brings will last for eternity.
