“Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and this love is perfected in us.” 1 John 4:11-12, ESV.
As we live in God, our love grows more perfect. It is vital that we live in close connection to God. If we do live close to God, we will have a greater love for Him and for others. It is the same word used for love when we read the verse in Luke 7:47. In this passage in Luke 7 we read about a woman of poor reputation who came to Jesus and anointed his feet with oil and washed them with her tears and then wiped his feet with her hair. Jesus recognized her faith and love and He challenged the Pharisee with the following words about the sinful woman.
“Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven—for she loved much. But he who is forgiven little, loves little.” Luke 7:47.
The same word used to describe the incredible love that God has for us is also used to describe the love that the woman had for Jesus. An important lesson for us is to realize how broken we are without God and to accept His forgiveness in our lives. Then we will be able to have a love for God and others that will be perfected in us due to the presence of God’s Holy Spirit in our lives. Some of us are privileged to know the love that a mother can give. A love that is self-sacrificing and powerful. Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mums.
