“A Minister friend of mine moved into a new town and his neighbour was waiting for him to slip up so he could say, “See, this man is a fake and so is the message from the Church!” However, he was not able to find any fault in the minister and eventually had a good relationship with him to the point that he accepted an invitation to attend Church and his life was changed. Something on a much bigger scale was happening against Jesus. The Jewish leaders were trying to bring Jesus down. They were confronted by Jesus and his teaching and wanted to get rid of Him. They stooped to devious methods to have Jesus arrested and tried. They looked for false testimony about Jesus that could hold up in court.
Finally, two men came forward who declared, “This man said, ‘I am able to destroy the Temple of God and rebuild it in three days.’” Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, “Well, aren’t you going to answer these charges? What do you have to say for yourself?” But Jesus remained silent. Then the high priest said to him, “I demand in the name of the living God—tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God.” Jesus replied, “You have said it. And in the future you will see the Son of Man seated in the place of power at God’s right hand and coming on the clouds of heaven.” Then the high priest tore his clothing to show his horror and said, “Blasphemy! Why do we need other witnesses? You have all heard his blasphemy. What is your verdict?” “Guilty!” they shouted. “He deserves to die!” Matthew 26:60b-66, NLT.
Messiah comes from the Hebrew word, Mashiach, meaning “the anointed one,” or “the chosen one.” In Old Testament times, prophets, priests, and kings were anointed by oil when they were set apart for these positions of responsibility. The anointing was a sign that God had chosen them and consecrated them for the work He had given them to do. Christos (Christ) is the Greek equivalent of the Hebrew term, Messiah (John 1:41). When Andrew, a disciple of John the Baptist, became acquainted with Jesus, the first thing he did was to find his brother, Simon Peter, and tell him about his exciting discovery. He told his brother, “‘We have found the Messiah’ (which is translated, the Christ). And he [Andrew] brought him [Peter] to Jesus” (John 1:41). From Bible Info.
