Again, Jesus speaks about the kingdom of God, giving us another unique description of what it looks like. He tells His disciples that the kingdom of God is like a man scattering seeds in his fields. The farmer goes about his daily chores, trusting the seeds to grow on their own. He isn’t overly concerned, knowing that
the seeds will naturally sprout and grow. Late in the season when the crop is fully grown, the farmer then harvests it.

In this parable, Jesus compares the farmer and his seeds to God’s kingdom. He explains that the kingdom of God operates similarly. It’s like a tiny mustard seed planted in the earth. Despite being the smallest of seeds, when fully grown, it becomes one of the largest plants, providing food and shelter for birds.

Do we see ourselves as one of God’s “mustard seeds?” We, too, are creations of God. Just as the mustard seed provides life and shelter, we are called to share our gifts with the people and world around us. Consider this: what “fruit” are you bearing? What gifts do you share in your world? If you can’t name them, perhaps ask someone you trust what gifts they see you sharing.

So, be mindful of how you strive to share life with those you encounter. Who knows? One of them might be a “mustard seed” that produces more than we could ever imagine. Look for the “fruits” of others’ mustard seeds as well. It could be an abundant and fruitful day in many ways. Celebrate God’s goodness
to us!
