This week’s passage Matthew 24:36–44, Jesus speaks about Jesus’ glorious return. While the exact timing of His return remains a mystery, this passage reassures us that it will happen, and it calls us to live with readiness and purpose.
Jesus says, “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father” (Matthew 24:36). This verse reminds us that speculating about dates or times is fruitless. Instead, our focus should be on living faithfully in anticipation of His return instead of speculating and trying to predict it.
Jesus said that He is coming soon: “He who testifies to these things says, ‘Yes, I am coming soon.’” Soon is a relative term and this is why I believe that so many people have formulated so many different theories regarding this matter.
Maybe instead we should look at what the Scriptures have to say on this matter? Jesus compared His return to the days of Noah, when people were going about their daily lives, unaware of the judgment to come (Matthew 24:37–39).
The message here is clear: life will seem normal, but His coming will be sudden and unexpected. For many this will be confronting, as verses 40–41say some will be taken, and others will be left behind.
“Therefore, keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come” (Matthew 24:42). Our preparation is not about fear, but about faithful living. He invites us to align our lives with His teachings, sharing His love and truth with others.
Will Jesus return? Absolutely. His timing will be perfect. In the meantime, our calling is to trust Him and live with readiness. Are you prepared?
