Jesus is Peace

In this week’s passage, Jesus imparts several profound truths about the peace He offers those that follow Him. As He prepares His disciples for His departure, He promises them a unique kind of peace. A peace not of this world, but a peace of a divine nature.

In verse 24, Jesus emphasizes the importance of obedience to His teachings. Jesus reminds His followers that His words are not His own but come from the Father which lays the foundation for the peace He has to offer. Obedience to Christ aligns us with God’s will, providing the assurance that we are walking in His divine plan, even in times of uncertainty.

Jesus then speaks of the Holy Spirit, the Advocate, who will teach and remind His disciples of everything He has said (v. 26). The presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives brings a deep sense of connection to God, enabling us to experience His peace no matter the storms we face. The Spirit’s role is not just to guide, but to reassure us of Christ’s eternal promises.

In verse 27, Jesus offers a peace that transcends human understanding: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

This peace is not the absence of conflict, but the presence of Christ in every situation. It is a peace that conquers fear, calms troubled hearts, and reassures us of God’s steadfast love towards us.

So, as we reflect on this passage, let us embrace the peace Jesus provides. A peace that comes from trusting Him fully, walking in obedience, and allowing the Holy Spirit to guide our lives. Through Christ, we can find rest for our souls and the courage to face every challenge. This peace allows us to face tomorrow.
