Life moves so quickly. Days turn into weeks, and weeks into years.  I’m often surprised how quick Christmas comes. In the busyness of everyday life work, family and our responsibilities it’s easy to lose sight of what truly matters. Yet, Jesus’ parable of the ten virgins in Matthew 25:1–13 calls us to live each day with eternity in mind.

In this parable, ten young women await the arrival of the bridegroom. Five were wise, prepared with oil for their lamps; while the other five were foolish, unprepared. When the bridegroom finally arrives, those who are ready enter the wedding feast, while those who are not find the door closed. The message is clear: be ready, for we do not know the day or the hour when Christ will return.

Living with an eternal perspective means more than simply waiting, it means walking daily with Jesus. Keeping our hearts full of His presence (the Holy Spirit), which is the oil in our lamps. Choosing faithfulness over complacency, prayer over distraction, and obedience over comfort. Our readiness is not measured by how much we know, or if we attend church on Sudays, but instead how closely we walk with Christ.

When we live ready, our priorities shift. We are no longer too busy, as He made time itself. We forgive more quickly, serve more generously, and love more deeply. We stop living just for today and start preparing for forever. The wise were ready, because their hearts were expectant, and their lamps were full.

As a faith community, let’s encourage one another to live with this eternal focus. Each act of faith, each step of obedience, and each moment of we prioritise for Him keeps our lamps burning while waiting for His return.

Ready or not, He is coming.

Let’s live each day in joyful anticipation, hearts burning with hope, and lives prepared to meet Him in the clouds.
