This Sunday, Ps Stephen Macri will be preaching on Ephesians 6:10 and Colossians 1:10-11. I’m not sure what the Holy Spirit has placed upon his heart, but I have a spirit of expectancy that it will be what we need to hear both as individuals and as a faith community. So, here are some thoughts.

In Ephesians 6:10, Paul writes, “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power,” reminding us that true strength doesn’t come from our own abilities, but from God’s limitless power as He can do exceedingly more than we can imagine. This call to “be strong in the Lord” is an invitation to surrender our self-reliance and embrace the might of God, allowing His power to fill and sustain us. Paul’s words encourage us to face life’s challenges by drawing on God’s strength, recognizing that no matter the size of the obstacles we face, God’s power is far greater. This isn’t simply about physical resilience or mental toughness; it’s about grounding ourselves in a spiritual strength that only God can provide. For He is mighty!

When Paul builds on this concept in Colossians 1:10-11, where he prays for believers to “live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that we may have great endurance and patience.” Here, Paul emphasizes that God’s power isn’t merely defensive; it actively transforms us, enabling us to live lives that reflect His grace and character. God’s strength empowers us to bear good fruit, live with patience, and demonstrate resilience, making us better equipped for service and perseverance in our faith.

Together, these verses paint a complete picture of the Christian journey. Ephesians 6:10 calls us to lean on God’s strength as our foundation, while Colossians 1:10-11 reveals the purpose and outcomes of that strength in our lives. God’s power not only helps us to overcome adversity, but also fuels a life of purpose and growth. Through His strength, we are equipped to fulfill His calling, endure with patience, and bear fruit in ways that Honour Him. These truths remind us that with God’s strength at work within us, we can face any trial with hope and live each day for His glory.
