“There is no question that we are bombarded with so many distractions. Some are harmless but many are very harmful and some are even evil. Daily we try so hard to keep our focus on Jesus but it is so difficult in our human strength, we need God’s Holy Spirit to help us.
A comment from the world says, “Two things define you: your patience when you have nothing and your attitude when you have everything.” An interesting quote to reflect on but we still need Jesus to have the right attitude.
The Jews in the desert were blessed with God’s presence, the food that He provided and the protection He gave each night. However, they lost patience with Moses and God and so they came up with another plan. Asking Aaron to get involved in their selfish plan lacked patience and it lacked any trust in God. It was not just unwise it was selfish. Note the first verse in Exodus 32.
When the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron and said to him, “Up, make us gods who shall go before us. As for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.” Exodus 32:1, ESV.
We need to rely on God in all our decisions because He cares for us and will lead us through to the right solution in every problem. The Jewish people went from worse to worse as they made a golden calf and worshipped it. How tragic that they wandered from the Living God who had brought them out of slavery and who had so much to offer them. Maybe there is a good lesson and reminder for us to learn from this story. Keep worshipping and trusting in our powerful God.
