Walking with Jesus: Imitating Christ

“If someone says, ‘I know Him,’ but does not obey His commands, that person is not living in the truth. But if anyone follows His word, God’s love is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we belong to Him: Whoever claims to live in Him must walk as Jesus did.” 1 John 2:4–6

The Christian faith is not just about what we say, but also how we live. John reminds us that to walk with Jesus means to follow His example in both obedience and in love. Hence, our actions must reflect the reality of our faith.

Walking with Jesus means aligning our steps with His, letting His example shape our choices, our attitudes, and our relationships. It does not mean perfection, but it does mean direction, moving closer to Christ-likeness each day.

We need to remember, that Jesus lived in full obedience to the Father. If we truly love God, our obedience will not just be empty words, but as genuine devotion to Him. The heart of Jesus’ Walk was love: love for the Father and love for people. When we imitate Him, love becomes the defining mark of our lives.

To claim we know Him while ignoring His teaching is a contradiction. Instead, our daily walk should demonstrate that Christ is alive in us and we are His followers.

Yet, we cannot walk this way in our own strength. We need the Holy Spirit who strengthens us. This is done through prayer, Scripture, worship, and fellowship, resulting in His character forming in us.

Each step of obedience, every act of love, every decision to reflect His ways is part of walking as Jesus walked. This is how the world sees Christ in us, and how we grow deeper in our relationship with Him.

Let us take John’s words to heart: “Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.” May our lives echo His footsteps, carrying His light and love into every place we go.
