Count it as a privilege to suffer for Jesus is great in theory but very difficult in reality. We can all identify with suffering and it is not something that we long for, although there is a degree by which we can look back on our suffering and recognise that there were things that we learnt. To suffer for being a Christian sounds like an injustice at the highest level. Jesus suffered when He of all people did not deserve such evil treatment but Jesus was fighting a spiritual battle to set us all free as we confess our sins and follow Him. Peter explains the dilemma we all face, “How can we count it a privilege to suffer for Jesus?”

“Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed. If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you.” 1 Peter 4:12-14, ESV.

It can be a challenge to follow Jesus. Pray for one another as we do this with joy. Pray for Nigel to have the words to say as he heads up to Lajamanu to conduct the funeral for 6 people from the same family after that horrific car accident. Pray for our elderly as they suffer many ailments from their ageing. Pray for one another as we may suffer for our faith in Jesus. Pray for Riley as a new follower of Jesus. Recently baptised, we can all remember the challenges that Riley could face in the battlefield of school especially coping with the spiritual battles. Pray for one another. Don’t blame God or others. Don’t blame yourself. We are all in a spiritual battle. God will help us through.
