Matthew 6:6 in The Message puts this verse as “Here’s what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place so you won’t be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense his grace.”

You may be familiar with the Kendrick brothers’ movie War Room that came out in 2015? It inspired many Christians to deepen their prayer lives by creating their own “war rooms” – essentially a place in your home (usually a closet or secluded place) where you can spend undivided and undisturbed time with God in prayer.

Do you have a “war room” setup in your house? If not, I encourage you to set one up – a small room or closet where you can shut the door to the world and simply spend some time alone with God. Ideally first thing in the morning, before you start the rest of your day, spend 5/10/15 minutes simply communing with God. Try it out for a week and see what a difference it makes!

Not sure how to start? Some Scripture can always get you going. Here are a few starter verses to consider:
Exodus 33:18 “Then Moses said, “Please, let me see Your glory” // Psalm 51:10 “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” // Psalm 69:1 “Save me, O God, for the waters have come up to my neck.” // Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” // Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” // 2 Tim 2:16-17 “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
