One of the most life-changing truths we can grasp as followers of Jesus is this: God is good.
This may sound simple, even predictable. We say it often in church, “God is good!” But do we truly believe it? More importantly, do we live in light of it, especially when life doesn’t feel good?
From the beginning, Scripture proclaims the goodness of God. After each act of creation in Genesis, God saw that it was good. In Exodus 33:19, when Moses asked to see God’s glory, the Lord replied, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you.” God’s glory is revealed in His goodness.
And of course, Psalms is filled with reminders of His goodness: “Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him” (Psalm 34:8) and “surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life…” (Psalm 23:6).
But what about the times when life gets hard? When prayers go unanswered, loved ones suffer, or storms won’t pass? It’s in these moments that our view of God is truly tested. If we believe God is good only when things are easy, we will struggle in trials. But if we anchor ourselves in the unchanging character of God, we find strength, peace, and even joy, because His goodness is not based on circumstances; it’s rooted in who He is.
Jesus Himself declared in Mark 10:18, “No one is good, except God alone.” In His life, death, and resurrection, we see the ultimate expression of God’s goodness. He came not to condemn but to save, to heal, to restore, and to invite us into eternal life. That’s not just good, it’s the best news that you can imagine.
God is still good. In our pain, in our waiting, in our breakthrough, in our celebration, He is good, and He does good (Psalm 119:68).
May we be a church that reflects His goodness, trusts His heart, and proclaims His name in every season.
