Walk with Jesus: Depending on the Holy Spirit

Walking with Jesus is not about striving in our own strength, but about living each day in step with the Holy Spirit. The Apostle Paul reminds us in Romans 8:1–2, “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.”

To walk with Jesus means living free from guilt and shame, knowing that His sacrifice has secured our forgiveness. But freedom does not mean independence, as it means dependence. True Christian living is marked by unconditional surrender to the Holy Spirit, who empowers us to live in a way we never could do on our own.

Paul compares two ways of life: those who live according to the flesh and those who live according to the Spirit (Romans 8:5). The flesh seeks its own way, relying on human effort, desires, and willpower. But those who walk with Jesus learn to lean on the Spirit’s guidance, strength, and wisdom. The Spirit not only points us to Jesus but also transforms our minds and hearts to desire what pleases God.

Depending on the Spirit means inviting Him into every part of our daily walk, our decisions, struggles, relationships, and thoughts. It is choosing prayer over worry, obedience over self-will, and faith over fear. The more we yield, the more Christ’s life is revealed in us.

Walking with Jesus, is not a lonely journey or one we do on our own. For a Spirit-filled life is a Spirit-led life. Each step brings us closer to the freedom, peace, and joy that God intends for us His children.

Maybe ask yourself each day: Am I walking in my own strength, or am I walking in step with the Spirit?
