If our car breaks down we want to hear what’s wrong and how to fix it, from the mechanic. Advice from our neighbour can be helpful but we need to hear from the trained expert. If we are unwell we can go online and find all manner of advice. A few years ago, I asked on google why my arm was hurting and it suggested I was having a heart attack! At that point I fainted! I later re-read the article and realized it was the other arm but it suggested I see a doctor to be sure. Turned out I had a mild case of shingles! Seeing the person in authority is vital to diagnose an issue. We may think we can’t talk to people about Jesus yet the following verses at the end of Matthew remind us that we all have the backing of Jesus when it comes to making disciples and talking about Him. We are being equipped by Jesus Himself. ‘
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20, ESV.
Jesus spoke to His disciples after the resurrection and said to them, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” John 20:21. This message is meant for all of us as His followers.
“But even if you suffer for doing what is right, God will reward you for it. So don’t worry or be afraid of their threats. Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it.” 1 Peter 3:14-15 NLT.
