This Sunday is Fathers Day and an opportunity to think about and thank our Dad. Our earthly Fathers aren’t perfect, they can let us down and they may not have been there for us. Sometimes this depends on their job and how stressful it is or it could have been difficulties and poor role models during their own childhood. The most important thing a father can do is to love his wife and support his children to know that they are loved and prayed for. Our children need love expressed in a combination of encouragement and discipline. An inspiring Dad is also one who is ready to say sorry, ready to forgive, not hold grudges and be willing to listen to their kids. A good father is one who relies on his Heavenly Father for direction. Paul teaches us so much about being Godly parents.

“Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamour and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” Ephesians 4:29 – 5:2, ESV.
