How many different jobs have you had in your life time? Some of you are retired and perhaps you only had one or two jobs in your career but the younger ones may already have had several jobs and that has given you lots of invaluable experience. It is a wonderful thing to know that you are in the job that you find fulfilling. Jesus calls Simon and Peter and gives them an appropriate job title for what He wants them to do.

One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living. Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” And they left their nets at once and followed him. A little farther up the shore Jesus saw Zebedee’s sons, James and John, in a boat repairing their nets. He called them at once, and they also followed him, leaving their father, Zebedee, in the boat with the hired men.’ Mark 1:16-20, NLT.

Jesus calls the fishermen from their job of catching fish to catching men and women. Jesus gives them a new job title. He is also calling us to be in the business of helping others to follow Him. We may also need to change our job title, but it’s more likely that we can be “fishers of men” no matter what job we have or where we are. Follow His calling today.
