It is important to be on God’s side as His judgement is complete. Rahab believed this as is recorded in Joshua 2. She said to the Israelite spies, “I know that the Lord has given you this land and that a great fear of you has fallen on us, so that all who live in this country are melting in fear because of you.” Joshua 2:9, NIV
She had heard that God had done many powerful things and so she had a reverent fear of God. She said about the works and the power of God, ….our hearts melted in fear and everyone’s courage failed because of you, for the Lord your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below.” Joshua 2:11, NIV.
Rahab was spared as she protected the spies and had found favour with God but Jericho was totally destroyed.
“When the trumpets sounded, the army shouted, and at the sound of the trumpet, when the men gave a loud shout, the wall collapsed; so everyone charged straight in, and they took the city. They devoted the city to the Lord and destroyed with the sword every living thing in it—men and women, young and old, cattle, sheep and donkeys.” Joshua 6:20-21, NIV.
God’s judgement is complete, in fact God’s judgment is terrifying, but all we need to do is to believe and to follow Jesus.
“For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.” John 3:17-18, ESV.
