“There was a rugby league team that got into a grand final but they were not happy with the way the other team went about things, so they protested by not playing in the Grand Final. Unfortunately that simply meant the other team was awarded with the victory for the season. “You have to be in it to win it!” Well, rugby league is just a game, but the decisions we make in life are far more important. Our theme today is a reminder of how we need to be prepared for eternal life. “To have life we must have the Son.” In other words, to enjoy eternal life we need to believe and accept the Son as our personal Saviour.
“And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.” 1 John 5:11-12, ESV.
If you do not believe or accept Jesus as the Son of God, this means you do not have eternal life. Note the verse in John.
“Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.” John 6:36, ESV.
As difficult as life seems, we must never give up.
“So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:16-18, ESV.
Invest your time and energy into the things that are important. Follow the Son, the best investment you could ever make.
