Regardless of what you voted for in the same sex marriage debate, the call for our life from God is clear. We are to live our lives in a way that pleases God not ourselves or others. That is described as living a holy life rather than a life that is self-centred or worldly. With God’s help and guidance we should be focussed on our life first not those who we may disagree with. Ask yourself the question, “Am I living a life that pleases God?”
“Finally, dear brothers and sisters, we urge you in the name of the Lord Jesus to live in a way that pleases God, as we have taught you. You live this way already, and we encourage you to do so even more. For you remember what we taught you by the authority of the Lord Jesus. God’s will is for you to be holy, so stay away from all sexual sin.”
1 Thessalonians 4:1-3, NLT.
The potential for our society to look very different in the next few years is high. Same sex couples could be marrying within months. A major change could well occur for our young people and it will affect the generations to come. This is disappointing for many Christian people, but we must be a people that are willing to stay close to our convictions while still working hard at presenting the life giving message of Jesus to everyone regardless of their chosen lifestyle. Love and pray for those who think differently.
We already live in a world that has a multitude of viewpoints about major subjects. Be faithful, be positive and rely on God for His help for us and for future generations. Be holy and not hateful.
“Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we instructed you before. Then people who are not believers will respect the way you live, and you will not need to depend on others.”
1 Thessalonians 4:11-12, NLT.
