Today we celebrate that over 100 shoeboxes have been created for children who are living in conditions that are very poor. These children will receive a shoe box containing something to love, something to wear, something educational, something hygienic, something to play with and something extra special. The workers on this project do a wonderful job.
But imagine if a child receives the gift but decides not to open the box. It seems absurd yet we receive many wonderful things from God but we often fail to accept the gift. We are tempted to battle through life without God’s help and this is as crazy as a child not opening their gift. The following are verses from John 8.
So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” They answered him, “We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, ‘You will become free’?”
Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:31-36, ESV
Accept the gift that God is offering you today. Read and live in God’s Word and believe in Him for all parts of your life. This will help you to be free from the pressures of sin. Pray that the children will enjoy their gift and may they be miraculously challenged to hear about the greatest gift of all and that is, following Jesus.
Simply remember, it is the truth of Jesus that will set you free!
