Imagine if the Prime Minister of Australia came to Adelaide on a humble Postie bike! A very strange sight indeed. No big shiny limousine with dark windows and a chauffeur, rather he is sitting in the elements on a little red scooter. He certainly would not look very dignified or regal. Jesus came in to Jerusalem on a colt that had never been ridden. It would have looked undignified to say the least.
And they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on it, and he sat on it. And many spread their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy branches that they had cut from the fields. And those who went before and those who followed were shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the highest!” Mark 11:7-10,ESV.
Jesus would have known the following prophecy.
“Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.” Zechariah 9:9, ESV.
Jesus fulfilled that prophecy.
