Trust God for His provision and for His protection, there is no other way. A lady called Rahab who was known as a prostitute in Jericho became an unlikely heroine. Rahab heard about the miracle of the crossing of the Red Sea 40 years previously when the Israelites came out of Egypt. That miracle must have been legendary for all the people who heard about it yet the Israelites complained in the desert and wanted to return to Egypt. 12 spies were sent into the Promised Land soon after, yet 10 of them were terrified at the size of the people and retreated. The Israelites missed how powerful God was yet others from other countries were fearful of the God that looked after Israel. Read the following verses from Joshua 2.
The king of Jericho was told, “Look, some of the Israelites have come here tonight to spy out the land.” So the king of Jericho sent this message to Rahab: “Bring out the men who came to you and entered your house, because they have come to spy out the whole land.” But the woman had taken the two men and hidden them. She said, “Yes, the men came to me, but I did not know where they had come from. At dusk, when it was time to close the city gate, they left. I don’t know which way they went. Go after them quickly. You may catch up with them.” (But she had taken them up to the roof and hidden them under the stalks of flax she had laid out on the roof). Joshua 2:2-6, NIV.
Rahab was more confident about the protection God offered than she was of the King of Jericho. She knew that God would provide for her and she therefore took a huge risk and hid the 2 Israelite spies. She had great faith. We too must keep our eyes on our powerful God despite the opposition that may come upon us. Keep trusting in God despite the present difficulties. Remember what Jesus said in Matthew 19:26, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
