Walking with Jesus: Learn to Keep in Step
As we journey through life, we are all constantly invited to choose how we walk… especially with Jesus. The Apostle Paul in his letter to the Galatians, paints a very powerful picture of what it means to walk in step with Jesus. This is not a life driven by our own desires, but a life guided by the Holy Spirit.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness and self-control.” These nine attributes are not individual tasks we strive to complete, but they are meant to be the natural “outflow” of a life surrendered to Jesus. Just as the fruit of the Spirit grows in us when we remain connected to Jesus, as He is the Vine. Walking with Jesus is not a sprint, but a walk. It is a deliberate step of obedience, humility and love.
When we learn to walk with Jesus, these qualities become the evidence that we are no longer ruled by the flesh, but the Spirit. “Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.”
Walking with Jesus requires us to be intentional. It means asking, each day, “Lord, where can I reflect you today? And how can I reflect you today?
Paul goes on to remind us not to be become conceited or provoked by one another, as a Spirit led life isn’t about comparison or self-righteousness but about community, humility and unity in Jesus.
Walking with Jesus is also not about perfection, as it’s about direction. So, let’s commit to lives that bear fruit. Not drawing on our own strength, but His.
