Living the New Life
Paul’s letter to the Colossians speaks to us of our freedom in Christ, which is both freedom from something and freedom to and for something. Jesus, through his death, resurrection and ascension, and in conjunction with the work of the Holy Spirit, frees us from our sin; we are also made free to live a good, holy life, free for our good, the good of the world and the glory of God. May this Gospel truth never lose its freshness or power in our lives. I pray that the following poem will bless you as we reflect on Colossians 3:1-10 this morning.
You Are the Garden of God
A plot of weeds—
That’s all you see
In the mirror. But,
Did you know,
The one who sows
The seeds of life
Into your heart
Will take away
The sins that weigh
You down. He’ll pluck,
He’ll pull, until the muck
Gives way, makes space
For roses, daisies,
Lemon trees, grape vines—
Every good and beautiful thing,
Until the weeds can’t find
The room to grow.
Be at peace.
